“Philip Roth once said that literature is not a beauty pageant in morality. And anyway, human character is a mixed bag of beauty and cruelty, ideals and absurdities, understanding and forgiveness, self-indulgence and bitterness. Nina Mitrović is all too aware of these layers in this intimist phase of hers. Her dramas are deeply moving and tragic, but nothing is lost in despair. The Encounter is a complex play with powerful acting and gradual emotional dismantling; cumbersome and relentless, stubborn in its obsoleteness.
