The Balkan Spy is a brilliant case study of a man who has become the victim of the disillusionment of prosecution and perceives the world around him as a systematic conspiracy against himself and the ideals he supports. Overcome with mania, he creates a small, well-organized totalitarian order.
The character of Ilija Čvorović was created in 1983 and lived in the time just before the political system that was considered to be the generator of political paranoia collapsed. Today’s protagonist feels more relatable, because paranoia is omnipresent in these parts, which is what happens when politics and the media mix, as illustrated in the play through the new and distinctive character of the presenter.
Ljubomir Bandović and Nela Mihajlović undoubtedly carry the play … which, besides its many comical moments, has some truly moving ones…
