(…) (This) play … is more than just a tribute to an era and its actors, whose destinies best bear witness to its peculiarities. It was an era devoid of deconstructive ambiguities, when feelings weren’t ridiculed or outdated, marriage vows were exchanged or kept because of honour, and the pages of sentimental novels offered an escape from the world around you.
Dubravka Vrgoč, play’s souvenir programme

Apprehensive light-heartedness
… the true value of the play … stems from Medvešek’s script, which exudes his faith in humanity’s good qualities, coupled with the director’s clear awareness that interwar Zagreb was not just a stage for serenades, but also a witness to a rather difficult overall political situation of that period.
