Staggering around in the Balkan twilight
Inspired by Ivo Andrić’s play, The Bridge on the Drina is a visual, musical, dramatic and epic spectacle with a plot stretching through several centuries to depict the bloody Bosnian history. (…) Mladenović’s directing is visually, musically and choreographically utterly luxurious … Ideologically speaking, the topic of continuous and hopeless wrongdoing is prevalent throughout the play. Bosnian space is in this sense very expressive, both literally and metaphorically, as this is an environment of clashing and heated passions, a volcano of multinational conflicts. In these fragments of the Bosnian past, authorities keep on coming and going, as if they were carried by a conveyor belt, and oppression, slavery, obedience and blindness of the people remain, without any hope that the future will bring deliverance from the historical bloodbaths.
