The performance “Town Within Town“ is a new project conceived by the already known Rajković-Jelčić Creative duo, reflecting a recognizable theatrical expression that had originated in the authors’ previous two plays -“Slowdowns” and “The Unreliable Story” first performed in Theatre &TD. After having defined and scenically scrutinized a fictitious family’s environment, this play, opening in the ZekaeM Theatre, has entered Croatian reality at the end of the nineties, during a period of numerous bankruptcies, lay-offs and of overall frustrations. Although the scenic result of such a project does not accentuate a visible demarcation Une between the process of creation and the overall enthusiasm of the actors participating in it, both emerge as crucial: agility and gracefulness dominate the show, in spite of its overall dark and upsetting theme.

“It is precisely conformism as a common denominator of ali human interrelationships, inherited from socialism and perhaps even genetically impressed in the fates of the people living in these areas, which generated a regime of fraud and deceit which had ruthlessly plundered and looted the country and its citizens, most of whom today find themselves deprived and at loss. From such a perspective, Town Within Town is not only a good play of one of almost totally documentary texture, but also a precise social and psychological analysis of the conditions we live in.”
