“In Theatre Exit’s performance of East, the lowest social classes, beneath whom there subsist only the homeless and the poor, move along the edges of the eternally uniform, agonising and closed circles of life, and by doing so embark upon a useless and futile quest, since positive ideas on the improvement of life and family status, one’s personal dignity and self-respect have for quite some time proven to be so romantic that they have become irresistibly funny…

The characters in “East” are typified and literal to the extreme, thus meeting the demands of “total theatre”, who’s most prominent representative is precisely the British writer Steven Berkoff.”
