N.V. Gogolj: A MADMAN'S DIARY

Director: Marjan Nećak

Cast: Ozren Grabarić

Opening Night: June 10th 2015
Duration: 60 min

...Surely, the music by Marjan Nećak is the key segment of this mono-opera starring the ingenious Croatian actor Ozren Grabarić. Their Madman (Luđak) is a rarely seen theatrical transposition of a young official who declines into schizophrenia.
Grabarić's acting and vocal interpretation of the excellent psychedelic music by Marjan Nećak can, if anything, be characterized as meticulous and minutely detailed. In addition to being enigmatic and deep, it discretely builds its culmination. This play offers no passing out, misrepresentation or feigning ? interpreted by Nećak, the madman is a perfectly colourful character on the brink of madness; only one step further separates the character from the abyss of no return. The manner in which Grabarić impersonates him offers an excellent measure of warmth and sympathy for the character of Popri?čin which is also transmitted to the audience.
This is a rare theatrical plea, innovative, thoroughbred and strongly suggestive.
