This play about a Croatian war veteran with derangement reactions, but not of his worldview or sense of right or wrong, has won the appraisal of a large audience and several significant awards... Hoping that football as its topic is but a metaphor of a cohesive moment, and not a pragmatic pleading for the unity between the man and the ball as metaphysics which overcomes the ratio, we have to applaud The Frog's subtle optimism, its acceptable dose of realistic and at moments real cruelty, with just a metaliteral stub of absurdity.
We could sense that the barber's shop has become our purgatory, too... Director Jukić and his brilliant actors have painted Mihanović's The Frog with a palette of tragic hues through which a ray of light is showing after all.
