Barfuss: THE SEXUAL NEUROSES OF OUR PARENTS
Directed by: Tatjana Mandić Rigonat
One of the most played young European playwrights, Lukas Barfuss from Switzerland asks in his plays many questions that bother our contemporary society, but that are rarely discussed openly. He speaks about abortion, euthanasia, suicide and mechanisms of social repression in our (over)ripe consumer society, and analyzes human weaknesses. To quote him: "For me, people are most human when they live with their contradictions and when they try to cope with them. We are all heroes in our own way. And there's something very attractive in showing one's weakness – one's failure."
In "Sexual Neuroses of our Parents" Barfuss probes the mechanisms of social control which originate in the family itself. He observes and describes the state of the contemporary society through witty dialogues that clearly depict the controlled consumer world we live in, for which every difference is treated as danger.
