CEKAONICA CEKAONICA

Farm in the Cave is an international theatre studio focused on the creation, development and research of human expression. Farm in the Cave finds its objective in exploring a variety of relationships: me - you, body - voice, culture - nature, the public – the intimate, research – creation. Farm in the Cave wants body articulation to express what is impossible to express by other means. The existence of the studio is related to the creations and research of its founder, the Slovak director Viliam Docolomansky (1975). The activities of Farm in the Cave focus not only on creating new productions, but also on organising workshops, concerts, and expeditions to minority and indigenous cultures. The name Farm in the Cave is a literal translation of the word "Daimuz", which was the name of Lorca‘s family farm. The history of the studio begins in 2001 with the creation of the performance Dark Love Sonnets, and their productions have been performed at festivals throughout the world. The Farm in the Cave Studio appeared as guest at the 13th Small Stage Festival in Rijeka, with the winner performance Sclavi /The Song of an Emigrant/.

Waiting room. Memory versus the presence of a place – the railway station Žilina-Záriecie; from here, Jews from the Slovak State were deported during the second world war. In the waiting-room, a place in-between, "accidental" travellers meet and the dead return, not by accident. In this banal triangle of relations, private violence accumulates, evoking the unhealed historical trauma, which is still the root of silent nationalism. We find ourselves in the place of central-European conscience, where – accompanied by the tones of Slovak tango – we meet the ghosts of those with whom we have not parted. The performance Waiting room was awarded Prize of the RESPEKT Magazine for the strongest dance performance of the year 2007.

A masterfully and deeply dug finger in the wound of collective (un)memory!... In connection with the exceptional physical performances, we have in front of us a choreographic theatre par excellence...

The peak of the performance is again, however, the unique and characteristic acting of the studio´s members, acting that brings about… intense, almost psychosomatic experience in the audience. What is remarkable is specially the ability to articulate – without words, mainly through physical action – even the most abstract pictures and feelings…
